Children and Families at QBC

Hi, my name is Cindy and I’m the Children and Families worker here at Queensberry Baptist Church.
We want QBC to be a place where everyone, of all ages feels welcome and where children can have fun, feel safe, learn more and grow in their faith. We seek to do this in a variety of ways:

All-Age worship
On the 1st Sunday of each month, we have an all-age ‘Explore Together’ service in the main Church at 10.30am. This service will include corporate worship, prayer and Bible stories, and probably a game or quiz! We’ll also have time to explore a key Bible passage in different zones – for example a chat zone, book zone or busy/craft zone. This means everyone, of all ages, can choose a zone that suits their own learning style and preference.

Ignite
During most Sunday services, we run ‘Ignite’ which is our regular gathering for children aged 3-13. It’s a great way for children to learn more about Jesus through Bible stories, songs, crafts, films, prayer, games and more.
After meeting initially in church, the children will then split into their groups as follows:
Sparks for children in nursery up to year 2
Fuse for children in years 3-5
Blaze for children in years 6-8

Community Meal – Tuesdays, 4-6pm
Children and families are also welcome at our weekly community meal, which is held every Tuesday at 4pm in our community hall. As well as a home cooked nutritious meal, we also provide play and craft activities for the children. This is a relaxed, friendly gathering which offers a great opportunity to meet other families in the local area.

Safeguarding
We take safeguarding seriously at Queensberry Baptist Church.
All those who work with children undergo safeguarding training and are subject to DBS checks. Details of our safeguarding policy and our safeguarding team can be found on our website, and on our noticeboards in the church building.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the church building on Queensberry Street (details here) for our Sunday Service. Our car park can be accessed via Blankney Street. The service starts at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access via our car park entrance on Blankney street, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets just inside the entrance.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from our service leader, and will finish sometime between 11.45-12noon.

You can expect the service to include times of sung worship, prayer, readings from the Bible, a talk and time to reflect on how we apply what we're learning to our every day lives. We will also share updates, news and notices to help everyone keep up to date with what is happening in church life.

Our sung worship will be lead by a group of musicians and will include a mix of hymns and more contemporary worship songs. Sometimes a person might pray out loud, read a passage from the Bible, or share something they believe God is saying to the whole church community. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God.

We believe the Bible plays an important role in learning more about who God is and what it means to follow him. So each week we take time to explore a passage of the Bible together, usually by listening to a talk from one of our church team. We want what we're learning to impact our everyday lives so we'll spend some time thinking about how we can put what we've heard into practice.

We will spend time praying together, for our own needs, as well as local, national and international events. There is also an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

We share communion together once a month, usually on the second Sunday of the month.

Getting Connected

Home Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our home groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. If you are interest in joining a group, we can put you in touch with a home group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
